Open Gym
questions, answered
In most cases, yes — access to Open Gym at Hybrid Performance is linked to specific memberships or add-ons. Open Gym is not a casual walk-in or day-pass-only concept; it’s part of how we structure training inside our performance facility and HYROX gym in Amsterdam. If you mainly want to train independently, a Gym Only membership is usually the best fit.
If you want to combine classes (like HYROX, Hybrid Boxing and strength & conditioning) with solo sessions, an All Access option often makes more sense. During your intake or first visit, we’ll look at your goals, schedule and training experience, and then explain which membership gives you the right level of Open Gym access without paying for things you won’t use.
No. Open Gym at Hybrid Performance is by appointment only, not open-ended walk-in access. We do this on purpose: limiting the number of people per time slot keeps the space focused, safe and usable for real training, not just random traffic.
By booking your Open Gym slot in advance through our Trainin environment, you know there will be room for the kind of session you want to do — sled work, strength training, conditioning blocks or HYROX station practice. It also allows our coaches to oversee the floor properly, rather than trying to manage an overcrowded gym. If you’re used to busy commercial gyms in Amsterdam, you’ll feel the difference immediately: more space, more structure and less waiting around.
Open Gym is independent training, but you’re not left completely alone. You’re free to follow your own programme, HYROX plan or strength session, yet coaches are usually nearby on the floor. They can answer quick questions, check your technique, help with loading or suggest adjustments if something looks off.
What Open Gym is not: it’s not a full personal training session or a coached class. You won’t get continuous one-to-one cueing, and the coach’s main focus may be split between multiple members. If you want a fully guided session or a customised programme, we recommend combining Open Gym with personal training, HYROX classes or our strength & conditioning classes. That way you get the best of both worlds: structured guidance and flexible, independent training time in our Open Gym in Amsterdam.
Yes, many members use Open Gym as part of their rehab or comeback phase — as long as their physio or doctor agrees that training is appropriate. Because Hybrid Performance works closely with physiotherapists and offers PT & Physio support, Open Gym can become a bridge from the clinic back to full training.
Ideally, your physio and/or coach will outline which movements, loads and intensity levels are appropriate for you. You then use Open Gym to execute that plan in a real performance environment, with access to sleds, racks, turf and conditioning machines. If you’re unsure about a certain exercise, you can always ask a coach to take a look. This approach helps you rebuild strength, capacity and confidence in a controlled way, instead of jumping straight from rehab to a random group class in a regular gym in Amsterdam.
Most Open Gym time slots at Hybrid Performance are designed to be long enough for a focused, intentional session — typically around 60 minutes (or whatever duration you settle on internally). That’s enough time to warm up, complete your main work (strength, conditioning or HYROX stations) and cool down without dragging the session out. Exact durations and available times are visible in our Trainin booking environment.
How often you should use Open Gym depends on your goals. Some members train 2–3 times per week independently and use classes occasionally for extra structure or intensity. Others make classes the foundation of their week and use Open Gym once or twice for accessories, technique practice or extra engine work. If you’re prepping for HYROX, combining PT with Open Gym, or rehabbing an injury, we can help you decide how many Open Gym sessions per week make sense so your training at our performance gym in Amsterdam is effective but still sustainable.
